A well organized, thoroughly researched and well told history of the old Charleston District jail. The author has successfully invented a time machine for those who want to travel back to visit periods of American history rarely told from this perspective of the criminal justice system.

This book I found to be informative and interesting to read. I love the old city jail and it's great to know that there's a book out there with so much information about it!.

I've given tours in the jail for years for Bulldog Tours. This is the best book written about the life (or lack there of) in the old jail.
